Kite!

Hello Parents,
Today we learned about flying kites, and the differnt kind of shapes. For our art project we discussed how high do you think you can jump. The children were given a person to decorate. To make them look like themselves.

We played way up high for our group game. The children took their person and kite and would try to jump up and touch the streamer. After each child had a turn. I raised the streamer higher, and higher until we couldn't reach them we could use our person to help reach. This was a very exciting game!

After we made our person we decided to make a kite for him/her to hold. We made a dragon kite, and talked about how Chinese kites sometimes look like the shape of a dragon. So we made our kite look like a dragon with links and a heart for the face!

We also played Quilt Question. During this circle time game we discussed how many questions you can ask about a quilt. We asked 8 questions about a quilt! Then we talked about the letter Q.

Passport and Money

Hello Parents,

Today we learned about passport and money! The kids were asked "What do you need to take with you on a trip?" Some of the stuff was movies, clothes, toys, dinosaurs and food.

Our song of the day was:

One dollar, two dollars,
three dollars, four
your kids name took her/his dollars to the global store.
Can you believe,
she/he bought a gift for me?
What did she/he buy? Open and see!!

The kids learned how to do the word MORE in sign language. Ask them how its done! We sang a song while the kids did the sign for more. The kids were also asked what they would drink at a restaurant for our song.

May I have more?
May I have more?
More what they drank please,
More what they drank please,
Thank you very much,
Thank you very much,
Now I'm done.
No more please.

We asked each kid Where should you keep your money? Most of the kids said in there pocket, wallet, at home. Then we asked where can you keep your money when you travel they still said there pocket. We learned today that the safest place for your money is in a bank. We hide money around the room while the kids found the money and asked them if it was safe to hide money where they found it and of course they all said no!

We played a World Travel Bingo game! We got a chance to look at some of the places that we are going to visit this month! The kids really enjoyed all winning at bingo!

Airplanes and Boats!

Hello Parents,
Today we are exploring two types of transportation; airplanes, and boats! We focused on the color red, letter J, and the shape heart. We also learned a new song today...

Fly, fly, fly a plane,
or take a great big shit.
In a plane, or on a ship,
we will have a wonderful trip.

Today during writing time we worked in our little journals. Learning and talking about different shades of red. We discussed what you might find on a boat that is red. We came up with hat, fire alarm, beach ball, and first aide kit! For our little journal they colored the red bird, and I asked them to try and draw a red boat.

We also played "Which way will you go?"  For this game the children got to choose which way they would rather travel by boat or airplane. I passed out different sized red and pink hearts the children were able to sort out the pink and red hearts, and matched them to the airplane or boat.

We also worked on making our class
world for our bulletin board. Each child was given scissors and green paper. They were able to cut it any way they wanted, and then name their own continent!

Today we learned about Maps! We discussed many things about maps such as what you might find on a map. We enjoyed playing a game called find it where we picked a look and find glass and hunt for that object on the story  telling poster. We repeated this till every child had a turn.

This is the children pretending to fly like a plane to something red in the room.

We also played follow the Map. During this activity the children discussed how they get to school? We discussed different kinds of transportation. For this activity I gave each child a discovery map and let them cut out the different modes of transportation. Then they each was given a Q-tip and we flipped over every transportation card down on the table. Then we took turns flipping over the card and tracing the path from the "boat" to the world using the -tip. They had so much playing this game!

Hello Parents,
Today we start our journey around the world, learning about... It's a small world! We discussed what you might find inside a suitcase.  For our craft we made our very own suitcase, and passport. Before making our project we asked, what do you think a passport is? A passport is a little book that has your picture, name, and address. Then you get stamps in it when you go to other countries!

During circle time we marched in a circle and pretended to carry our suitcase during the days of the week song.Today we started a new theme so we talked about all the new things we will be learning about.

Basic Concepts:
Letters: Jj, Qq, Ll
Numbers: 11, 12, 13
Colors: Red, and pink
Shape: Heart
Sight words: we, to, can
Word family: all
Food group: Water
Sign Language: More, like
Friendship feather: Respectful

We also played Red Birds. During this game we talked about what is too big to fit in a suitcase? I held up the red bird and asked what color is it? I encouraged the children to shout out the color. We explained that this bird love the color red and that each child needed to fly around the room and look for something red and decide if it could fit in a suitcase. After every child has a turn we emptied the suitcase and talked about each item.

We also played lets go traveling. We discussed what we saw in our new story telling poster. then we pointed to what we saw and discussed each item. Then we looked around the room for things that were similar. We also counted each item that was the same. There were 12 things that were the same in the 4's room and 14 things in the 3's room.

Museum!

Museum

Today we finished our study of Dinosaur with learning about museums. Museums help us learn about our past (history). Most museums have paintings and photographs of items they specialize in. Some museums have the actual items or copies (replicas) of the items.

Our poem for the day was:

Down around the corner at the museum,
There were six different dinosaurs for you to come and see.
Along came your kids name looking at the bones,
she/he say the T-Rex and ran back home!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Our song for the day was:

Let's all go to the museum
E-I-E-I-O
Where we can see the dinosaurs
E-I-E-I-O
Where we can see bones,
Fossils and more,
The brontosaurus and T-Rex, too.
E-I-E-I-O

The kids really enjoy learning new songs!!!!

Today in art we gave each kid a postcard and addressed it to a family member. On the postcard we asked them to draw a picture of an item or a dinosaur. After drawing a picture the kids were asked to tell a story of it as the teacher wrote down there stories. The kids came up with some really good stories and names for there dinosaurs.

We also made some class room books called Dinosaur Dig. Each child was asked what they would like to see if they would go to a museum and they were asked to draw a picture of what they wanted to see. Some of the kids came up with some good ideas. Some of them are to see Dinosaur teeth, eggs, feet, hands.... Here's pictures of the kids with there finished pages of the book.

All the kids really enjoyed learning about dinosaurs!!! For this month the theme is going to be Its A Small World!

Volcano!

Hello Parents,
Today was an exciting day we learned all about volcano's! We learned that a volcano is a mountain that is hallow with a pool of molten rock (lava) inside. When pressure builds up inside the volcano lava heats up and flows out of the hole on the top. Volcano eruptions have been known to knock down and burn entire forest, and cause other natural disasters. Its not safe to live near a volcano.

Today during art we discussed what it might be like to live near a volcano. We made our very own "Dino Land!" We colored the background and made a volcano. We encouraged the children to make up their very own dinosaur story. We let the children pick a tiny Dino to play with inside their Dino land.
All finished, time to play!

Coloring the Dino Land

Today we also played heel to toe. We taped 5 papers together in a line, and learned that it was 52 inches long. We learned that a T-Rex's foot was 52 inches long from heel to toe. The children were able to count how many footsteps (heel to toe) it would take them get across the Dino's footprint.

We played a game called fallow the tracks. We placed our volcano's on the floor and took pieces of paper and made a path around them and took turns making it through the dangerous volcano's!

 Show and Tell!

The kids were so excited to show everyone what they brought in from home! Each child told a story about their item. Then the children got to ask any question they wanted. Needless to say they all loved it!

Jurassic Plants!

Hello Parents,
Today we had so much fun learning about Jurassic Plants! We played two games that focused on plants; Top or Bottom, and Dark Leaves. We also made our very own flashcards that has our colors, numbers, shape, and letters for the month. We also enjoyed the snow and went outside at 8:30am til 9:00am.

Top or Bottom is a brain box before playing this game we discussed the different parts of plants. FACT: Scientist have found roots in some dinosaurs skeletons and leaves in other skeletons. So this means some dinosaurs must have ate plants. The children said "It was because they think plants are yummy!"

One, two, three, go!

Throwing it way up!

For this game the children get to take turns, and throw the brain box high into the air. Once it falls down you read the action that the children will do.
Such as make an OVAL with your hands and legs!

We also played Dark leaves! We discussed, how do you think dinosaurs chose which leaves to eat? Also, how do you decide your favorite food?

We worked together to put the leaves in order from lightest to darkest. Then darkest to lightest.

Once we finished each child got to pick the leaf that he or she would eat if they were a dinosaur.

For art this morning we made flashcards, and talked about how dinosaurs fed their babies. We believe they went looking for food and brought it back to their nest!
Reminders:
Show and Tell is tomorrow, please bring in your item that is or reminds you of a dinosaur!

Jurassic Climate!

Hello Parents,
Today we learned all about Jurassic Climate! We talked today about what it means to be dry, and the opposite wet. The children also played a game called wet and Dry. Where they were able to try and spell wet and dry with letters.

For art we made a Triceratops eating leaves. The children were able to explore the color's red and blue. We asked "What do you think happens when colors mix together? All the children agreed it would make a new color; Orange, purple, green, and yellow.
We couldn't decide what color it makes, we had to mix it!

Red and Blue make PURPLE!

During writing time we practiced writing our uppercase D, and lowercase d.

I did it!

Then we colored our D's blue, and the DINOSAURS green!

Reminder:
Tuesday January 31st 2012 is show and tell!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! See you Monday!

Footprints!

Hello Parents,
Today was a very exciting day. We learned all about dinosaur footprints. We talked about what they would do if they found one. Most of the children said they would run away. Then they said dinosaurs are very, very big! Today we asked the children. Which dinosaurs do you think had big step and which one took little steps? They said the t-Rex took big steps so does the brontosaurs. But they think the pterodactyl would take little steps.

But we had the most fun playing with our dinosaur feet, we learned it was pretty hard to have such big feet like a dinosaur. We had a blast roaring!

For our group game we played puzzle making. It was a puzzle of dinosaur bones! Our teacher hid the puzzles pieces around the room and we went searching for the "Dinosaur bones." Once we collected all the bones we put it together and discovered it was the bones of a T-Rex!

We also focused on the number 10. During writing time we talked about what details you might find in a dinosaur footprint. We gave the children their journals and found the page with ten eggs on it. We encouraged the children to trace the number ten. Then we asked them to draw two ovals, and 10 circles to make feet!

 Reminder:

Tuesday, January 31st 2012

We will be having show and tell!
